Electroencephalogram (EEG) Services

Start Your Journey to Recovery

An electroencephalogram is exactly what the name means: a record (-gram) of your brain’s (encephalo-) electrical activity. Diagnosing the precursors of a stroke, or identifying the damage caused by a stroke after the fact, requires an EEG. The way it works is simple: electrical sensors are placed on your scalp while your brain activity is stimulated. This may include flashing lights or simple deep breathing.

While your brain is being stimulated, its electrical activity will be recorded by a polygraph, similar to lie detector or seismograph results. After a few minutes of recording, your procedure will be finished! Your results will be sent to your physician, who will then determine if your brain-wave patterns have abnormal readings—which would indicate nervous system damage.

At Jupiter Medical Center, we use EEGs to help diagnose strokes or a transient ischemic attack—or a brief blockage of blood to the brain. To schedule an EEG with a nationally-renowned leaders in cardiovascular treatment, call (561) 270-0797 today!
