Prior to the procedure at Jupiter Medical Center, your physician will ask you to spend at least 4 weeks on blood thinners. This will prevent any existing blood clots from escaping your heart once your rhythm returns to normal. Sometimes your doctor may ask for an immediate cardioversion appointment, but in most cases we will schedule it out weeks in advance.

Aside from the weeks of pre-treatment, the procedure itself only takes a few minutes. Patients are asleep when their hearts are recalibrated to a normal rhythm, so they don’t “feel” the procedure at all. Usually, patients are ready to go home after a few hours of monitoring, and can return to normal activity by the next day!
